Lately twitter has been losing its popularity to other upcoming social media sites and this has become a worrying trend for its management. This has been due to some of its users becoming dormant. With waning engagement amongst its users, twitter is facing a huge hurdle in trying to convince its users to actively use the site. One of its responses was the addition of a bunch of new features on the site and a bunch of others that are being tested to find out whether they will be of much use in recovering its active user base. There have been a number of rankings carried out on social media sites which include;
Twitter ceded ground to Instagram on being the best choice to advertisers running their marketing campaigns. Two thirds of the people who were surveyed confirmed that they would prefer Instagram as their favourite choice of marketing as opposed to twitter which had 56%. This was also showed in its revenues obtained from advertising which took a deep to 56% in 2015 as opposed to the previous year’s 111%.
The survey also showed that more agencies were shifting their marketing budgets to Instagram and more who were still on twitter were willing to move to Instagram. This shows that the future for twitter when it comes to advertiser rankings looks quite gloom for the site and unless their user engagement rises the company faces the potential of making huge losses.
Number of users
The number of active users in twitter tells a tale of the company losing its popularity among its users. According to global social media rankings, twitter came in 9thin its ranking on the number of active users after Instagram which was 8th. However, according to traffic of unique users on the site, twitter came in 3rd after YouTube and according to the number of online adults who used social media; twitter came in 2nd at 23% after Facebook.
If the numbers are anything to go by, then it shows that twitter’s active users are dropping amidst the rise in other social media platforms like Instagram, Snapchat and Wechat. However, it still commands a sizeable audience among the adult audience and is second rated in most countries in the world after Facebook. All twitter has to do is get their dormant users active and their user rankings will make a positive upturn.
Based on popularity rankings, twitter has been on the number 2 spot after Facebook for a while now. In as much as the social media giant has been having troubles with its revenue streams, its popularity with users around the world has not faded. There are other social media platforms that are giving twitter headaches in its revenue streams but these sites have failed to master a global audience as twitter currently has.
Based on these 3 rankings, twitter is not definitely dead but will need to reignite the spirit of its users in order to avoid their shift to other sites.
